Referral Hospital ERU

1. PURPOSE

To serve as a first referral level hospital with medical and surgical units to be used as soon as possible in emergencies when local medical facilities are insufficient or have been destroyed.

2. CAPACITY

This referral unit has a principal capacity of up to 250'000 population served, using a modular approach adjusting to the actual needs. The bed capacity ranges between 120-150. The unit is self-contained for one month.

3. PRINCIPAL TASKS

3. 1. Surgery & limited Trauma

Emergency care

3. 2. Internal medicine
  • Infectious diseases, including basic preparedness to care for large numbers of patients in case of epidemics.

  • Therapeutic feeding of patients suffering from either disease or malnutrition.

  • Out Patient Department (OPD) / triage / registration

  • Dentistry (extractions only)
